Quota test projects

In the following guide, you will learn about the process of creating test projects and inviting test users in Coscine. This tutorial is intended for quota admins of Coscine.

General handling of requests for test storage space

No RDS test space is allocated for Coscine users in individual projects. If requested, users will be invited for 2 months to test projects created by the quota admin with 1 GB RDS-S3 storage space each.

Communication with inquirers

Requests will be made via the university's respective support email address. The following information is required from the users:

Names and e-mail addresses of all persons relevant to the testing.

The following text block must be communicated by the quota admin to the requesting person:

Thank you for your request. To test Coscine and the RDS resources, we would like to invite you to a test project in role of "Member". The test project has been allocated 1 GB of disk space for RDS-S3 resources. For RDS-Web resources, 100 GB is available for testing. You can create resources within the project and test the upload and download of files. The duration of testing is 2 months from invitation to the project. From the title of the project you can see the date of deletion. At the end of the 2 months, you will be removed from the project and any remaining files and associated resources deleted.
If additional people from your project need access to the test project, please send us names and email addresses of all people relevant to the testing. If you need more storage space or a longer period of time for your testing, please let us know by email with appropriate justification.

Creating test projects

  • Quota admins of an organization have one parent generic test project (e.g. RWTHQuotaAdminTestProject).
  • Per request a subproject is created in it (or an empty test project (see below) is filled accordingly)
  • Project Name: Day of deletion (2 months after creation)
  • Project Description: For testing Coscine and the RDS resources we would like to invite you to a test project in the role "Member". The test project has been allocated 1 GB of disk space for RDS-S3 resources. For RDS-Web resources, 100 GB is available for testing. You can create resources within the project and test the upload and download of files. The duration of testing is 2 months from the date of invitation to the project. You can see the date of deletion from the title of the project. At the end of the 2 months, you will be removed from the project and any remaining files and associated resources will be deleted.
  • PI: Name of the requesting person
  • Project Start: any
  • Project End: any

  • Each subproject is allocated 1 GB of storage space for RDS-S3 (see Allocation of storage space), 100 GB RDS-Web is available by default.
  • Requestors are added as "members".

Note

A higher need for storage space for testing and/or a longer test phase must be discussed with the quota admin and explained in the project description.

Deletion of members, files & resources from test projects

After 2 months (according to the date in the subproject title), in the following order:

  • all members are removed from the test project,
  • all files in resources deleted,
  • all resources deleted,
  • the Quota-Admin page will be checked regarding quota allocation and if necessary reset to 1 GB per S3 resource / 100 GB per RDS-Web
  • Subproject title is changed to "empty" (thus marked for reuse)
